Persons with addiction disorders have suffered enough in the throes of addiction. Unfortunately for many the thought of seeking treatment for addiction will be met with more suffering, judgment, and punishment. At Shadow Mountain, we will treat you and your withdrawal symptoms in a caring and compassion manner. Detoxification is the first step in treating this illness and becoming well.” says Jeffrey K Blixt D.O., Medical Director of Colorado Springs Detox, Shadow Mountain Recovery. Dr Blixt is a Diplomat of the American board of Addiction Medicine, and board certified in family practice will lead the medical team. Dr. Blixt has been in private practice since 2000 treating primary care patients. He is described as passionate and empathetic by his patients in supporting them in their journey through recovery and sobriety.
Shadow Mountain Detox Hospital is dedicated to the treatment of alcohol and substance use disorders. The hospital is staffed by medical and mental health providers and provide 24-hour medical monitored care for acute detoxification needs, utilizing the bio-psycho-social model. This process helps stabilize the patient and reduce the risk of developing complications from the withdrawal process. While most persons do not need inpatient treatment detoxification from alcohol or other substances, there are those who will benefit from medication-assisted detoxification. There is evidence that the use of appropriate medications for acute detoxification and continued use thereafter will increase retention in treatment for some individuals. This is vital as detoxification by itself without further treatment is less likely to result in long-term sobriety.
Our facility provides acute treatment to individuals in need of detoxification. The medical team consists of qualified RNs and mid-level providers, such as nurse practitioners and physicians assistants. The clinical team consists of psychologists, master level clinicians and certified addiction counselors. Fostering an alliance with a therapeutic team of clinicians that are supportive, empathetic, and nonjudgmental, during this point of entry for the treatment of substance use disorders, will help build trust. This resource will increase the chance that this individual will continue with treatment after detoxification.
While the individual is in detox, goals will be focused on identifying and assisting the individual with their strengths and weaknesses, and assessing options for further treatment: including possible obstacles that may prevent ongoing treatment. All parties, including the individual and the treatment team, are vital in this decision-making process.
